Club News
From Chris Steer, committee member:
Thanks, to the members who helped draw out the names. We need to keep to the timelines supplied below for each round and try and get ahead if at all possible. Two games by the 22nd Nov isn’t asking a lot. Any injuries that will stop you playing your game by the required date please let me know and we can discuss. The draw is below and I will pin this up next week at the club. Rules are further down, there are quite a few new members so if you are unsure how the handicap works , here is an example: In the game between Jimmy Hart and Simon Gray, Jimmy will start on 0 and Simon will start on -6 (minus 6). Rules are below the draw. The best way to pay the subs will be to give your £2 to Sam behind the bar. Rules 1 Point a rally scoring. 2 Weaker player serves first in each game. If same handicap toss a coin and whoever wins the toss serves first each game 3 First to 15 straight (no need to win by 2 clear) 4 Stronger player starts on minus difference between the two handicaps 5 Best of three games 6 Entry Fee £2.00 to cover cost of trophies 7 Subs must be paid to be eligible to enter

In a repeat of last year’s Super Vet final (over 55) Keith Dupuy took on Martin Wright. With Dupuy starting out of form Wright raced into a 10-0 lead. Dupuy then won 7 consecutive points to come back to 7-10 before taking the game to a tie-break. At 15-14 Dupuy was serving for the game but Wright then took three consecutive points to take the first game 17-15. Wright edged ahead in the second but from 2-3 down Dupuy won 8 consecutive points to move to 10-3 up and then closed out the game 15-6. In the third game Wright opened up a narrow two point lead at 4-2 and maintained this slender lead up to 10-8. Dupuy then pulled back to 12-12 and with the players trading points the third game also moved into a tie-break at 14-14. This time it was Dupuy’s turn to win a tie-break winning the game 17-15 to win the match and retain the Super Vet Championship. The Club Night on the 3rd Nov 2017 was a well attended evening with 2 finals taking place. Firstly, Clem Heneghan and Rob Tarling battled it out for the Plate and then Owen Ledger and Tom Dupuy locked rackets in the Championship final. The crowd were in good spirits and both games were very well contested and the draw for the final competition of the year (the Handicap) was completed.
