Dear Biggleswade Squash Club, Peterborough Town Squash Club are hosting a graded Squash and Racketball Open on Sunday 7th July 2019. This is the first event being ran here in a while and we are looking to get it as busy as possible with lots of individuals from different clubs, allowing everyone to play different people, against those who they may not usually play against. We would be very grateful if you could pass on the information to those you feel may be interested, put a copy of the poster up at your club, or forward this email onto your members. Peterborough Town Squash Club are hosting a Graded Squash and Racketball Tournament which is a full day event with each player guaranteed 3 matches. Match format and draws will be released following the entry closing date of Wednesday 3rd July. A few matches were not played by 31st May deadline so bottom player has automatically been put through. Well done to those in ‘B’ Champs and Super Vets for getting all matches played! Deadline for completion of next round in all competitions is Friday 14th June. In the event games are not played by the due date the bottom player will automatically go through. HANDICAP PLATE Please arrange remaining Handicap Plate games so that final can be arranged. We have 2 semi-finalists to date. A crowd of over 50 assembled at Club Towers in Bedford last night to watch Towers 1 versus Biggleswade in the Beds Cup Final.
First up was Simon Gray at number 5 against Ian Thomas. Simon was on the back foot after the first game but played well forcing his opponent to make mistakes and levelled the match at 1-1. Thomas then cut out his mistakes and went on to win 3-2. Nick Roberts at number 4 got off to an excellent start taking the first game against Steve Barlow. Thereafter they exchanged games to go to 2-2. Nick looked to be cruising at 13-4 in the fifth but then ran out of energy allowing Barlow to come back and take the lead. At 14-13 and nothing appearing to be left in the tank things looked desperate but Nick somehow found the energy and composure to win 3 consecutive points and win the match. With the match now level Jay Ledger at number 2 faced the hard hitting Bruce St Ledger. It was apparent early on that Jay was suffering from an injury and Bruce spotting this adjusted his game to play many drops and take the match 3-0. In a repeat of the league game 2 weeks ago Owen Ledger faced Will Montgomery and once again Owen proved too strong with a comfortable 3-0 win. With the match all square Marcus Gray faced Lee Bartlett. Bartlett took the first game but Marcus upped the intensity in the second to level things. Despite continuing to play well the steady play of Bartlett proved to be too much resulting in a 3-1 defeat for Marcus and the trophy going to Towers 1. A fine effort from the lads but as in the league runners up to Towers 1. Many thanks to all those who travelled to support the team and a particular thanks to Robbo for organising and driving the minibus. Handicap final winner (2018) is Nick Roberts. Well done to Nick and unlucky Marcus...your time will come one day.
