COVID-19 update: 2nd December 2020

Dear Members

Following the latest announcement from England Squash, I am pleased to confirm the club will be re-opening upon the end of this 4-week lockdown on the 2nd December.

England squash has provided guidance based on the latest tier system put into place. This will mean we will need to abide by the following conditions:
  1. Solo practice is allowed.
  2. One-to-one coaching is allowed.
  3. You will be able to play sides within your current squash bubbles of 6.
  4. Members from the same household or support bubble can play as normal (best of 5).
The bar and changing facilities will be closed. This means no access to the upstairs of the clubhouse for viewing or seating.

I will notify you all should there be any change to a more severe tier category. If this does occur, it will affect the above rules.

Opening of the club will be left to squash members. Before booking an earlier court, please consider this if you do not have a key to access the premises. I would suggest liaising with other members playing at the same time to ensure they can open the facility and that you're not left outside without access.

Payment for courts is still being decided - I am currently looking into a payment system that will collect payment through the SportyHQ app when booking a court. If this is not feasible we will ask that you transfer court fees into the clubs bank account. I will provide you with bank account info closer to the time if this applies.

Thanks everyone, look forward to seeing you this week.

Kind Regards
Marcus

Court Renovation Update

Renovation work began on the 8th June focusing on courts one and two, the first major work to be conducted on the courts in over two years. With the renovation nearing completion and with only the floors left to be re-sanded and re-lined, both courts have had substantial work completed. Both front walls have been completely stripped back and re-plastered using the well-regarded, Armourcoat plaster. Side and back walls have also been sanded and re-filled to ensure a smooth finish. Both courts have been painted in a white acrylic-based paint, providing a softer finish, better for withstanding ball impact. To finish off, we added new tins to both courts, court 1 features a fixed height tin @ 19 inches, whereas court 2 offers a height-adjustable tin which can be lowered to a pro-standard 17 inches. Both courts have been fully re-lined to finish off finer details.

"It's great to offer the members of this club two fully renovated courts to return to after what has been a long time without any squash. This will hopefully go some way in continuing to attract potential members of all standards around the Biggleswade area to come and join our great and unique club. We are sure that this is just the beginning of further future improvements. Finally, I would like to thank the great work of our squash committee as well as the Rugby club committee for backing our plans to move forward with this project.
- Marcus Gray, Squash Chairman - 18th June 2020
