Why Play Squash?
THE HEALTH BENEFITS ARE AMAZING
In 2003, US magazine Forbes rated squash as 'the world's healthiest sport'. Looking at a variety of factors, including cardio endurance, strength, muscle endurance, calorie burn, and flexibility, squash came out on top, ahead of rowing, rock climbing and swimming.
Squash gives you an intense cardio workout, simultaneously builds muscle in your lower body, and increases strength and flexibility in your back and core. All this in just 30 minutes of exercise!
It is a common misconception that squash players get lots of injuries; according to the British Medical Journal, squash actually helps prevent injury, improves overall health and can reduce the risk of cardiovascular death by up to 47%!
Regular sport and social activity is known to improve mental health and reduce stress. So, apart from the post-match drink in the bar (which has other benefits), squash is hugely beneficial for both body and mind.

Squash is cheap(ish)
Membership of a squash club costs about £100 per year, and each time you play court fees are around £2-5. Clubs have different pricing structures; you may pay more in membership and less in court fees, but consider these prices a general guide. You can get a decent racket for about £40, and balls cost a couple of quid each. Any pair of non-marking trainers and sports clothes will do. That's about it to get started.
Compare those prices to hefty gym fees and squash is a no brainer! You'll get far more value out of 40mins on a squash court than an hour in a gym, and having an opponent lined up will stopping you putting off the gym 'just this one time'.

Squash is addictive
Squash is easy to pick up, but tough to master. After all, it is just hitting a ball against a wall...
However, squash is also a complex game of skill, testing both your physical and mental faculties. There will always be an aspect of your game to work on, whether it is technique, tactics, endurance, movement or skill.
Some people just play squash recreationally with friends, and that's fine. Playing CLUB box leagues and competitions is a great way to improve by playing a range of different opponents, and playing better players. Playing team squash and external tournaments takes this further, pitting you against players from other local clubs in a team environment.
However seriously you take your sport, squash has a level to cater to you needs.
