Biggleswade Squash Club Senior Championship Finals - September 2016
Proving that age is no barrier to playing squash Biggleswade Senior Championship finals were held on Friday 2nd September in front of a sizeable crowd.
In the Super Vet category (over 55) Keith Dupuy took on Martin Wright. The match started evenly but from four all Dupuy raced into a sizeable lead and took the game 15-8. The second game was a much tighter affair and at 14-13 Wright was serving to win the game. However, a lapse in concentration resulted in a serve out of court and allowed Dupuy to level the game at 14-14 and go on to take the game 16-14 to become Super Vet Champion.
The Senior category (over 45) saw Tony Rumbold and Simon Gray continue their long standing rivalry for top dog. Rumbold having sensed his opponent’s fitness was not what it used to be mixed up his game playing many more drop shots than normal. This proved to be a successful tactic resulting in 11-6 win in the first. Gray showing his usual tenacity bounced back in the second and serving at eight all it was anyone’s game. Rumbold however won three consecutive points to take the second game 11-8. In the third Gray battled hard to take the match into a fourth game but was always slightly behind and Rumbold closed the third game out 11-7 to become Senior Champion.
